Christopher Bass is General Counsel at New Western, overseeing all legal and compliance matters to support the company’s growth and innovation. His expertise in risk management and regulatory compliance ensures New Western operates seamlessly within an evolving legal landscape.
Before joining New Western, Chris was Head of Litigation at Selene Finance, managing a large nationwide portfolio of cases and supervising multiple legal teams. Previously, he served as Deputy General Counsel at Caliber Home Loans for over a decade, where he directed litigation strategies, legal aspects of human resources, and regulatory enforcement actions. Earlier in his career, he practiced at Troutman Pepper Locke, handling commercial litigation, antitrust matters, and appellate advocacy, including arguing before the en banc Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Chris earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Mississippi and a Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, in Finance from Mississippi State University. He is an active member of the State Bar of Texas and the Mississippi Bar Association.
In addition to his role at New Western, Chris is committed to the legal profession and public service. He serves on the board of Molocar, Inc. d/b/a Truespot and is a board member for The Novus Academy, a special needs school in Grapevine, TX. He previously served on the board of Hope Adoptions and was a member of the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, appointed by the Texas Supreme Court. He has received a commendation from the U.S. Army for pro bono services rendered to service members abroad and was honored with the Dallas Bar Association Equal Access to Justice Pro Bono Award. Chris is also widely published in legal journals and is a frequent presenter and panelist on consumer finance law and employment law topics.
Outside of work, he enjoys time with his wife and two teenage sons on their family ranch in Sunset, Texas. An avid hunter, he recently traveled for a dangerous game expedition in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. He also has a passion for vintage sports cars and off-roading adventures.
